Tube Weight Calculator

Calculate the weight of a steel tube (round, square, or rectangular).

Tube Weight Calculator

Estimate the weight of a hollow structural tube — round, square, or rectangular — using cross-section dimensions and length. Uses steel density of 7850 kg/m³.

Formula

Weight = (Outer Area - Inner Area) × Length × Density

Step-by-step

  1. Compute outer cross-section area
  2. Subtract inner area (outer minus 2×wall)
  3. Volume = Net Area × Length
  4. Weight = Volume × 7850 kg/m³

Example

A 50 mm round tube, 3 mm wall, 6 m long weighs about 20.9 kg.

FAQ

What is the difference between pipe and tube?+

Pipes are sized by nominal diameter; tubes are sized by exact outer dimensions. This calculator uses exact dimensions.
